Music for Life

Mrs. Louise Dickson - Head of Department:

“I have taught at Thirsk School for 15 years. I enjoy teaching my subject and I am passionate about practical music making.  Music is just not about the classroom.  As a department we have a number of successful extra curricular ensembles that perform in the school and the local area.  The department organizes opportunities to hear live music which has included set works.  To have workshops led by visiting experts to enhance the syllabus and to have a foreign music tour every year this includes a number of Sixth Form Musicians. Our sixth form musicians play an active and important role in the life of the department.  I expect them to be part of the ensembles and some do lead and rehearse groups.”

Mr. Owain Pierce-Williams – Music Teacher

“This year will be my second year at Thirsk School & Sixth Form College, and I have been so impressed by the positive relationships formed between the students and the staff. In the music department, we have a number of opportunities for students to become involved in all our extra-curricular activities, and those that do are wonderful role models for the younger children in the school”
